We are the Marquis', Norman & Eunice, and have lived in Old Orchard Beach for around 30 years. After managing property for many of those years (including motels), we were fortunate to acquire The Crosswinds Motel and Cottages in March 2000.

During our first seven years on East Grant Avenue, Norman ran the motel complex by himself, while Eunice operated Coastal Awards, their other business. In November 2006, that business caught fire burning it to the ground and, thereby, allowing Eunice to join Norman in running the motel complex.

This property does not operate by itself. We have a much needed maintenance staff as well as a great housekeeping crew. Many of our employees are housed on site, but need to hold a second job to meet their financial obligations. The Crosswinds becomes a home away from home for the summer for most of our staff and so we become their family.

Over the past eight years, many, many improvements have been made to the property, which gives the cottages and cabins a more homey atmosphere and the motel units have the feel of a bed and breakfast, so say our guests. We attempt to make everyone feel as if this is their home away from home.

Above all, the new and returning guests are our most important asset. Many of these guests have become close friends over the years, and we treasure those many memories and look forward to many new ones in the future.

Unfortunately on July 15, 2015, my husband and partner passed away after a ten-year battle with Alziemers. He had a quick wit and robust sense of humor, which made him a favorite character to many who came in contact with him. The Canadians especially liked Norm, as he spoke their language fluently and understood the pride they took in their heritage. He was larger than life and a force to be reckoned with. He is missed by all who were lucky enough to know him. My life was so much better for knowing him.

On January 28, 2019, I lost a beloved companion and friend, my dog Jake. He was my sidekick for many years. He developed Cushings Disease and suffered greatly staying with me as long as he was able. He is still remembered and missed by guests and staff alike.
